When using SEO for your marketing efforts, there are so many other tactics you can use to increase your site's visibility in the search engines not talked about in SEO circles. Today's focus will be on Social Network sites. For more on this topic, you need to visit the Web 2.0 Marketing Tactics blog. They talk about social networking in much more detail. But for now...

Promote your blog? Why would you want to do that? Honestly, if you have to ask yourself that question you probably shouldn’t even have one. The whole purpose of a blog is to document your thoughts, views, and opinions on a particular topic, issue, or subject.

In addition to sharing your thoughts with the rest of the world, did you know that you could also make money from your blog?

You can sign up for affiliate programs or other programs like Google Adsense. If you are using your blog to make money then you will defiantly want to promote it.

When it comes to promoting blogs, there are many blog owners who decide to let the search engine do the work for them. Search engines, such as Google, Yahoo, and MSN use special techniques that reads the content on your website. That content is then used to rank your website with particular keywords. This means that you run a blog on graduating from high school in New York, and there is a good chance that your blog will appear in searches done on New York high schools. Although many blogs are successfully ranked in search engines, not all are. That is why you are advised against relying solely on search engines, when it comes to promoting your blog.

As previously mentioned, if you love meeting with or talking to people online, there is a good chance that you belong to a social networking website or community. The individuals that you talk to and that are in your community are likely the individuals that you wish to target. Since most social networking websites work to connect Internet users who have the same goals and common interests, there is a good chance that your online friends will enjoy reading your blog. But, before they can read your blog, you have to let them know that it exists.

When it comes to promoting your blog on social networking websites, you have a number of different options. Your first option is to include a link to your blog in your community profile or profile page. This will allow other community members to checkout your blog, only if they wish to do so. The other way is to inform your online friends of your blog through private messages. Once you join a social networking website and create or join a network of friends, you should easily be able to communicate with those friends. Sending each of your friends a private message with information and a link to your blog tends to be more effective than just placing a link in your profile or on your profile page.

Although there is a good chance that you are already a member of a popular social networking website, you may not be. If you are not already a member, but would like to become one, you will need to find a social networking website to join. This can easily be done with a standard Internet search. In your search, you will likely find a number of popular network sites, such as MySpace, Facebook, FriendFinder, Yahoo! 360, and Orkut. Before becoming a community member at one of these networking sites, you may want to first examine the website to ensure that it is everything that you want it to be.

As you can easily see, there are a number of different ways that you can go about promoting your blog on online social networking websites. You never known, but, in addition to promoting your blog, you may also make new friends along the way.

Search Engine Submission is SO Old School!

Have you come across documents promoting search engine submission yet? If you have been in Internet Marketing for any length of time, you have. Did you know that search engine submission was THE thing to do to get traffic back when there were only 500 web sites on the internet? Great idea when there were so few sites competing for everyone's attention...not so much when there are several BILLION websites online today! Are you sure that the search engine submission technique is still a good idea? Keep reading...

The process of search engine submission involves you taking the time to submit the URL for your website to a search engine. Historically, undertaking the act of search engine submission was important because by doing so, you actually “made” the search engine “aware” of the existence of your website. This was a tool through which you could assure that your website would show up on result lists for certain searches.

In the past, search engine submission was important. However, over time and as search engine technology has developed, these search engines now have their own technical tools that assist them in identifying and listing even new websites within their indexes. In other words, the whole concept of search engine submission to gain at least initial recognition of a website has become far less important, and more importantly, obsolete. The key really is developing ways in which you can increase the positioning of your website on search engine result rankings. Therefore, you likely would be better served focusing your time and effort on developing SEO strategies as opposed to search engine submission. You will find many options later on this blog, as we find them and report them back to you.

Stay tuned!

How to Conduct Proper Keyword Research

If you have a website, and you have been around for a while, you know about SEO. And you probably think of it as a long term strategy to drive traffic to your site. But this doesn't have to be the case. There is no need to optimize your website for a dozen keywords in order to get enough visitors. You can get top rankings quickly for all the keywords you can find.

However, if there is a lot of competition for the keywords you chose, your job is going to be a lot harder. All that means, though, is that you will just need to work a little harder on your SEO techniques with those keywords.

To start out with, you just need to optimize your website for one keyword only. This will most likely be enough if you choose a keyword that gets a lot of traffic. You can find tons of these keywords in many niches that will bring in a lot of traffic. Several free keyword search tools will help you with this. Look for a minimum of 2,000 searches, up to 10,000 searches.

You will need to aim for those keywords. An average conversion ratio for most sites is approximately one sale per three hundred visitors. That is without hiring a copy writer. A decent website in could earn several sales a day if it gets 300 visitors a day.

Remember that you will be stuck with this keyword for a month or two maybe, optimizing your website for it. So it will not be easy then to switch to another keyword, you will have been getting all those backlinks with that keyword in the anchor text, now you have to start from scratch if you pick up a new keyword. I am not saying those backlinks will be useless.

What keyword tools should you use?

This depends on your needs and your budget. If it is difficult to find good keywords in your niche using a free keyword tool, you may want to test drive a paid tool.

However, with a free keyword tool, you should find several good keywords. Some will show you certain keywords that have no competition, which are named "strange keywords". This is a good thing to do, which may take a paid tool to find these keywords and you may find some hidden gems.

So doing keyword research properly is very important. The better keywords, the faster your results! So, get busy now!
